COERR Mae Sarieng Promoted Local Wisdom as Cultural Inheritance to the Young Generation

   COERR Mae Sarieng promoted the displaced elderly group of local wisdom experts in the Project called “Cultural Inheritance to the Young Generation” in Ban Mae Lama Luang and Ban Mae La Oon Temporary Shelters in Mae Hong Son Province’s Sob Moei District throughout 2022.

   This is to enable the elderly to transfer their art, culture and wisdom, especially in “bamboo weaving and embroidery”, to the young generation. Local material is used to produce weaving items for daily use, such as:

     Weaving Bamboo Chicken Cage: Most Karen worked in farming, planting and chicken raising. One of the items every                    household needed is bamboo chicken cage for poultry;

     Bamboo woven back basket: for storage of heavy objects like firewood. It requires a skill and experience to form such a                  beautiful shape of basket;

     Bamboo splitting and making strips for weaving: is basic process of weaving;

     Thread Knitting: is a process for weaving and designing many weaving patterns according to the color of the thread.


   In 2022, COERR organized 9 trainings for the cultural activities; 5 trainings in Ban Mae Lama Luang Temporary Shelters in which 237 youths of 103 females and 134 males participated; 4 trainings in Ban Mae La Oon Temporary Shelters in which 155 youths of 89 females and 66 males participated.
